Harold V. Fink

April 13, 1921 — June 13, 2017

Harold Vernon Fink was born April 13, 1921, on a farm near Deloit, Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Mildred Riddle Fink. He passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-six.
Harold received his education in the rural schools near his home after which he joined the family business, Fink Welding. Harold became sole owner and worked in this business for over 60 years. Harold was invaluable to the farming community even receiving a deferment from military service so he could keep the farming community thriving during the war. In addition to his welding shop, he did custom farm work with his brothers, Don and Mervin. One of Harold’s greatest work achievements was modifying the John Deere planters eliminating the need to transport on a trailer. Harold modified over 300 planters for farmers as far away as Illinois. After Harold retired from Fink Welding, he decided retirement wasn’t for him. Kevin and Harold started K & H Repair for eighteen years together until health issues no longer allowed Harold to do so at the age of 95.
On December 27, 1944, he was united in marriage to Margery Heffernan at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison by Father Casey and they were blessed with the birth of seven children. They made their first home in Denison and then lived on the farm near Deloit where his life was his wife, his family and his machine shop.
Harold enjoyed fishing, when time allowed, owning a cabin at Lake View and building several boats. He enjoyed square dancing and barn dancing in younger years. Always sitting as a family to watch Bonanza, and watching Wheel of Fortune with his wife, Marge brought him great pleasure. Harold loved his family and spending time with them and was also very fond of his dog “Gus”.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Marge in 2009; two sons, David and infant son, Joseph; one daughter, Rita Nissen; one son-in-law, Darrell Nissen; one daughter-in-law, Estella Fink; three brothers, Don, Chuck and Mervin Fink. Survivors include: three sons: Dennis Fink; Edward Fink and his wife, Carol; and Kevin Fink and his wife, Beverly; one daughter, Mary Jane Beam and her husband, Ronnie; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lorena Fink; other relatives and friends.
