Harvey E. Meeves

August 18, 1930 — September 14, 2017

Harvey E. Meeves was born August 18, 1930, six miles north of Dunlap, Iowa, in a two-story farm house, the son of Henry and Rubine Meeves. He passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-seven.
Harvey attended Boyer #2 country school and then went to high school in Dunlap graduating in 1948 after which he worked on the farm for his father. On August 11, 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army, taking his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and then being sent to Karlsruhe, Germany on the Rhine where he was a bulldozer operator with the 7th Army 1402 Combat Engineer Battalion.
He met his future wife, Gisela Erna Braun, in Karlsruhe, Germany where they were married in German court and church March 20, 1954. Harvey was honorably discharged from the service August 11, 1954, with the rank of Staff Sergeant, after which he served ten years in the Reserve. In January 1955, he and Gisela moved to a farm seven miles north of Dunlap, Iowa, where they resided for 62 years and were still residing there at the time of his death.
Harvey enjoyed collecting things such as watch fobs, pocket knives and anvils. Traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Germany, Canada, and east to Gettysburg, Washington, D.C. and Wilmington brought him great pleasure.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert. Survivors include: his wife, Gisela; two children, Suzanne and her husband, Edward and Stanley; two grandchildren, Lauren and Megan; two sisters-in-law, Joanne and Edeltraud; two brothers-in-law, Willi and Kurt; other relatives and friends.
