Hazel Lapel

Hazel Annabelle Lapel was born March 28, 1911, the daughter of John and Grace Burmiester Amman. She died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-nine.
Hazel was born in Denison, Iowa. She received her education in the Denison Community School and graduated from the Denison High School. After completing her education she taught in the rural school system until her marriage to Raymond Lapel on March 25, 1933. They were blessed with the birth of one son, Monte.
Hazel was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and was delighted in being teased by her grandchildren. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards and photography. She also enjoyed bird watching and had a big Martin bird house. Hazel and Raymond loved traveling and spending winters in the south and summers in Alaska, where they enjoyed camping and fishing. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Vail for sixty-five years. Hazel has made her home in Eventide since 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond in 1998, one sister, Helen Anderson and her husband, Evan; and one brother, Ardan Amman and his wife, Catherine. Survivors include her son, Monte Lapel and his wife, Helen of Vail; five grandchildren: Jerry Lapel and his wife, Lori; Gene Lapel and his wife, Chris; Dan Lapel and his wife, Sharon; Todd Lapel; and Tracey Hallberg and her husband, Paul; twenty-two great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
