Hedwig Schnoor

Hedwig Gertrude Schnoor was born October 12, 1918, the daughter of Bernhard and Amelia Werle Schmieder. She died Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Denison Health Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
Hedwig was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, and grew up around the Charter Oak and Ute, Iowa, rural area. She was baptized in Christ on December 15, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, and confirmed on March 25, 1934, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. She received her education in a rural school near her home and after completing her education, she helped on the farm. On January 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Martin Schnoor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. The couple was blessed with the birth of five children. They made their home on various farms in Monona and Crawford County. Hedwig was in charge of the chickens and sheep and did a lot of bean walking for various farmers. In 1991, they moved to Ricketts, Iowa, where Hedwig continued to make her home until moving to an apartment in Denison. She entered the Denison Health Care Center in 2007.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. While living in Ricketts she attended St. Luke Lutheran Church and when living in Denison she would attend Our Savior Lutheran Church. She loved children and spending time with her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed socializing, dancing, bowling, and playing cards. She was very proficient at embroidering.
Hedwig was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin in 2001; two children, Linda and Myron; three brothers: Harry and his wife; Marie; Walter and his wife, Evelyn; and Benny; one sister, Marie and her husband, Barney; one brother-in-law, LaVerne; and three sisters-in-law, Leona, Elsie and Fern. Survivors include: one son, Douglas and his wife, Mariann; two daughters: Theresa and her husband, John; and Debra; six grandchildren: Troy and special friend, Lindsey; Tammy and her husband, Brian; Tracey and her husband, Paul; John; Jason; and Adam; four great-grandchildren: Shannon, Jennifer, Benjamin, and Sarah; one sister, Amelia; one sister-in-law, Ruth; one brother-in-law, Fritz; many other relatives and friends.
