Helen Maxine Beermann, the daughter of Emil and Lena (Hulsebus) Burmeister, was born May 21, 1928. She passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa at the age of eighty-seven.
Helen was born and raised in Crawford county. She received her education and graduated from Denison High School in 1946. Following high school, she worked for Firestone. She was united in marriage to Carl Beermann on January 5, 1947. The couple was blessed with eleven children. Helen was a hard worker and part of all aspects of running the family farm in Buck Grove, including planting potatoes and plucking chickens. Raising her children was her greatest joy. She was skilled at quilting and canning, and always had a big and beautiful flower garden. Helen loved working with children at Imagination Station, Job Corps, and West Central Development. Helen also did a great deal of sewing for family and friends. She was an excellent baker and her homemade pies were a family favorite.
Helen was a strong, independent lady and when she spoke, you listened to her. Her family describes her as “Tiny, but Mighty,” and they will cherish the memories they have of her, always.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her husband, Carl in 1991; one son Randy in 1961; one son-in-law Dale in 2013; one granddaughter Cristy in 2005; one sister: Gladys; and one brother: Leo. Survivors include: ten children: Robert “Blue” (Nancy); Lois; Ron (Carol); Russell (significant other Judy); Richard “Dingo” (Lisha); Lanette (Larry); Lori (Doug); Ross of Defiance; Lucinda (John) of Carr; and Lisa (Ron); 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one sister Doris; many other relatives and friends.
