Helen Gondeline Schuldt was born September 13, 1918, the daughter of Julius and Lena Clausen Hass. She passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
Helen was baptized in Christ on April, 13, 1919, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Aspinwall, Iowa, by Rev. Dr. John Luepke and later confirmed on December 20, 1936, by Rev. J.M. Ansorge in Manning. In 1934 she finished country school in Iowa Township in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she worked as needed for various families in Crawford County, at the egg plant, and at the Royal Caf in Denison. She also did alterations and helped out at her daughters clothing store, Broadway Fashions.
On May 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond Schuldt, son of August and Elsie Schuldt, by Rev. Carl Schmidt. The couple started farming on his parents farm in East Boyer Township, Crawford County, where they lived until 1980, when they retired and moved to Denison. They were blessed with the birth of one daughter, Darlene.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She was a loving and dedicated farmwife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flower and vegetable gardening, and loved to can produce from her garden. Her favorite activities included playing cards, crocheting, sewing and working on various crafts, as her hands were gifted to do anything she saw. She loved to work and help anyone in need.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Henry, Marvin and Melvin; and one sister, Laverne. Survivors include her husband, Raymond, and her daughter, Darlene; one brother, Merlin and his wife, Verna; one brother-in-law, Earl; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
