Henrietta Adela Reimers was born February 2, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Wilhelmina Berndt Preuss. She passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
Henrietta was born in Denison and received her education at Hanover School #6 in rural Denison. She was baptized in Christ on March 26, 1921, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, and confirmed on February 24, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa.
On August 17, 1942, she was united in marriage to John Reimers in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple settled on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa, and were blessed with the birth of two children. Her husband retired in 1980. Following his death in 1984, she remained on the farm until 1990 and then moved to Charter Oak.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was important to her. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and baking for them. As a homemaker, she kept busy with lots of cooking and baking, sewing, tending to her vegetable garden, and raising chickens. Playing Solitaire was a favorite pastime of hers. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and she liked to listen to the radio. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one great-grandchild; two brothers: William; and Kenneth and his wife, Elta. Survivors include one daughter, Shirleen and her husband, Fred; one son, Allen and his wife, Heather; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
