Howard Martin Christiansen was born January 30, 1931, the son of Solan and Helen Christiansen. He passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015, at his home, at the age of eighty-four.
Howard was born on a farmstead near Dow City, Iowa, and received his education in a rural country school. He helped on the family homestead and was employed by neighboring farmers before leaving to serve his country in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, Howard returned back to the Dow City area helping his parents farm the family farm and also helping many other local farmers. On August 21, 1955, Howard was united in marriage to Janice Preul, and they were blessed with three children. Howard and Janice resided on a farm outside of Denison, where he farmed with his father-in-law, Henry Preul, until 1964, when he started his 30 years of employment with IBP. During this time, Howard and his brother Richard also farmed the family farm near Dow City. Howard was a plane enthusiast, owning, building and flying around 20 remote controlled planes. Throughout the years, Howard and Richard restored numerous antique cars. After his retirement Howard, worked at Eric Skoog’s car wash. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, deer hunting, camping at Storm Lake, and was an accomplished mushroom hunter.
Howard was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers; Cecil, and Daniel; two brothers-in-law; Rovanis, and Ardelbert; two sisters-in-law; Gloria and Lorrain; one grandson Brett.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Janice; three children, Robin and her husband Ed, Jeff and his wife Laurie, Raquel and her husband Don; six grandchildren, Andy and Kristin, Ryan and Erin, and Trinity and Sawyer. Other survivors include one sister, Carol and her husband Jim; one brother, Richard and his wife Cathy; four brothers-in-law, Larry and his wife Mary, Gary and his wife Barb, Darrell and his wife Belinda, Richard and his wife Deb; three sisters-in-law, Joyce and her husband Guenter, Darlene and her husband Richard. Berneil and her friend Tony; many other relatives and friends.
