Ila Isabelle Krueger, 96, passed away on May 12, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. She was born on September 22, 1918, in Hanover Township to Thomas and Blanche Butler.
She attended Charter Oak Public Schools, graduating in 1935. Attending the alumni banquet each year was a highlight for her. Ila married Earl Lownes on January 8, 1939. To this union , two children were born. Earl passed away on October 13, 1967 .On May 6, 1969 she married Lester Krueger and on November 3, 2001, Lester passed away.
In her younger years, Ila worked as a telephone operator in Charter Oak and was the bookkeeper for Butler Motors. Ila worked in the office at Iowa Public Service for 25 years. After retiring, she and Lester enjoyed spending time at their trailer on Spirit Lake.
Music was a big part of Ila’s life. She was a piano accompanist in high school and later played piano and organ for Sunday School and church. She later enjoyed performances by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ila was a member of the Charter Oak United Methodist Church since 1930. She was a former member of Royal Neighbors of America, Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, and remained a member of the Methodist Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards and Rummikub, crossword puzzles, watching TV and visiting with friends. Ila was in her glory driving her car or going for rides in the country.
Ila was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Jean; brother, Richard; and son-in-law, Arvin on May 8, 2015. Survivors include; one daughter, Janice; one son Dennis; one brother, Blaine and his wife, Lois; one sister-in-law, Lois; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, with one on the way; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
