Irene Wilhelmina Lee was born October 14, 1919, the daughter of Carl and Louisa Jahn Kutschinski. She died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
Irene was born in Charter Oak, Iowa. She attended St. Johns Parochial School and later received a G.E.D. On June 11, 1955, Irene was united in marriage to Francis (Red) Lee at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak The couple farmed south of town until purchasing the Herman and Marie Schultz farm in Paradise Township in 1958. They were blessed with the birth of one son, Bruce. In 1984 they moved to Charter Oak but continued to farm until retiring in 2003.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed telling stories about her grandchildren. She was a caregiver for her parents and was always taking care of others. She enjoyed a variety of activities including cooking and baking, sewing, and gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Irises were her favorite flowers. She would often enter flowers, vegetables and pies at the county fair. In 2004 she moved to Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, and then to Eventide Lutheran Home.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis in 2005; four brothers: Ernest, in infancy, Alvin, Elmer and Art Kutschinski; two sisters: Erna Friedrichs and Olinda Schultz. Survivors include one son, Bruce and his wife, Cherri of Charter Oak; four grandchildren: Brandi French and her husband, Jason of Charter Oak; Brooke French and her husband, Justin of Castana; Brady and Brittany at home in Charter Oak; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
