Irene Meiners was born July 18, 1929, the daughter of William and Louise Wulf Groth. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the age of eighty-four.
Irene was born on a farm in Goodrich Township near Denison, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, Irene worked for John Rattenborg Hatchery, for Virgil Boeck, John Hanson, Robert Smidt and Vernet Paulsen.
February 25, 1952, Irene was united in marriage to Herman Meiners at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm west of Manilla and was blessed with the birth of four children.
Irene was a homemaker who cared for her family with love and devotion. As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she cared for her family with great strength. She loved to socialize over a cup of coffee with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking and for a time, worked at the Rusty Nail and Unity Caf in Manilla. She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, word search puzzles, scratch tickets for the lottery and watching baseball on TV. Other shows she enjoyed watching include: Young and The Restless, Bold and Beautiful, as well as game shows such as Wheal of Fortune, Jeopardy and Family Feud.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman and two brothers, Vertus and Milroy. Survivors include: two daughters, Carol and her husband, Everett; Patty and her husband, Chad; two sons, Dale and his wife, Shirley; and Michael and his wife, Judy; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-granddaughter; four sisters, Darlene; Betty and her husband, Paul; Marilyn; Margeret and her husband, Erwin; one brother, Wilbert and his wife, Lorraine; two sisters-in-law, Marlene and her husband, Gene; and Marlys; many other relatives and friends.
