Irene Christina Stone was born in Denison, Iowa, November 9, 1936, the daughter of Warren and Hilda Rath Whited. She died at her home in Denison, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the age of seventy- six.
Irene grew up near Denison and began her formal education in rural schools in the area and the Denison Community High School. After completing her education, she worked at Cronks Restaurant as a waitress and then as a cook. In 1955, she was united in marriage to Dale Schiltz. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children. The family moved to California and lived there for two years before returning to Denison in 1966. In October of 1981, she was united in marriage to Allan Stone in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived there for a short time before moving to Theodosia, Missouri where she owned and operated a Mexican restaurant. In 2008 she returned to Denison where she has remained.
In her home time, she enjoyed caring for her house plants and her flower garden. She loved to write childrens stories, especially about Barney the Beagle, also poems and enjoyed telling jokes. She could be found relaxing to easy listening music that included songs by Eddie Arnold, Conway Twitty, and Charlie Pride; but when her mood was of a faster pace, she could be found dancing. She was an outdoors lady, and her leisure days found her fishing and camping in the regional lakes and ponds but she enjoyed home time watching western films with her best friend Rosco. She was a loving mother and grandmother who cared for and raised her children, her younger sister, Yolanda and several foster children with a strong will and big heart. She was a good listener when friends and family needed her caring opinions and help.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Delores Slater and her husband, Bob and Arlene Bolken. Survivors include: three sons, Michael Schiltz and his dear friend, Pam Meeves of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Dennis Schiltz and his wife, Sandy and James Schiltz and his wife, Robin all of Denison; and one daughter, Susan Aschenbrenner and her husband, Don of Laurens, Iowa; and one foster-son, Dwayne Scott Francois of Denison; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are: four sisters, Ruby Barnes and her husband, Mike and Judy Dugan and her husband, Bill all of Theodosia, Missouri; Donna Stone and her husband, Larry of Schleswig, Iowa; Yolanda Sherburn and her husband, Fred of Fort Collins, Colorado; two brothers, Gale Whited and his wife, Joleen of Vail, Iowa; and Jerry Whited of Deloit, Iowa and one brother-in-law, Red Bolken of Denison; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
