Jackie Kohnekamp

July 28, 1937 — March 21, 2025

Jacqueline Rose Kohnekamp was born on July 28, 1937, the daughter of John and Muriel (Points) Mitchell in Treynor, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. She graduated from Treynor High School.

She dedicated her career to various roles, beginning at a factory in Omaha for Tip Top, where she helped produce wigs and hair products. She later worked as a hostess at the first McDonald’s in Council Bluffs and spent time employed at a craft store in Charter Oak. She also greeted customers at Walmart and worked in Sioux City, always bringing warmth and kindness to those she met.

On May 12, 1956, she married Walter Joseph Boland at Holy Family Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Together, they built a life in Council Bluffs and were blessed with four children. After Walter’s passing, she found companionship with Jerald Eugene Kohnekamp, and the two married on August 22, 2000, making their home in Charter Oak.

Jackie was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and the American Legion Auxiliary. She had a passion for shopping and social outings with Red Hats. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crafting, and traveling. In her later years, she found great joy in the companionship of her dog. She cherished holiday gatherings with family, especially baking Christmas cookies and desserts, which she lovingly delivered to elderly residents and those living alone. Above all, her most treasured moments were those spent with her children and grandchildren.

Jackie passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa at the age of 87 years, seven months and 21 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Walter Boland and Jerry Kohnekamp; two sons: David Boland and Brian Boland; grandson, Derek Johannsen; five sisters: Irene Forrester, Dorothy Norton, Mary Donahoo, Mildred Daggett and Carol Lyons; and two brothers: Joe Mitchell and John Mitchell.

She is survived by her children: Allan Boland (Kathy) of Omaha, Nebraska and Julia (Hoss) Reddick of Charter Oak; daughter-in-law, Susan Boland of Schleswig; grandchildren: Brian Boland Jr. (Misty), Scott (Nicole) Reddick, Nathan (Mandy) Reddick, Chad Reddick (Shawna), Ian Boland, Sara Boland, David Boland Jr., Alicia Boland, Jessica (Jon) Reiter, Jerrod Johannsen (Talsha) of Schleswig, Jacob Boland (Shazette); many great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
