James William Laubscher was born March 14, 1931, the son of Edward and Caroline Laubscher Sr. He died Friday, December 25, 2015, at the Lake Side Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-four.
James was born on a farm near Dow City, Iowa and grew up in the area where he received his education in the Coon Grove Elementary School. He completed his education at Midwestern College receiving his high school GED. After completing his education, he worked on the farm for a few years. His professional life included: Hedstrom Concrete in Schleswig, semi-truck driver for Grage Elevator, Iowa DOT for 27 years, City of Denison Street Commissioner for many years and most recently, he was the Right Away Agent for Northern Natural gas.
He was united in marriage to Ramona Hinze at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt on April 20, 1950. The couple was blessed with the birth of one son, Garry James. He was devoted to his family and most of all to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through Holy Baptism and Confirmation in the Lutheran Faith on January 18, 1953. Since then he committed his life to Christ as evidenced by his work in the church that included: Usher, Mens Club and Elder serving in each capacity for many years. Jim was always willing to help with events in the church and hosted the men's club at the farm every summer. He always lent a hand to others in need. He enjoyed singing, socializing with family and friends and was an excellent Snooker player. He enjoyed hunting at the farm as well as in Texas, Oklahoma, and Wyoming and fishing in Canada. He treasured trips and other events he took with the FFA. In his younger years, he and Ramona would Square Dance at farm dances in the area and frequently joined others at dances at the Starlite Ballroom in Carroll, Lakeview and the Golden Slipper in Dunlap.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ramona; one son Garry and Kris; two grandchildren: Bric and Kim and their son, Carson; and Brandon and fiance Diana; siblings include LaVerne, George; Richard; many other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed.
