Jane Harvey Frey, of Greenwood, South Carolina, died December 28, 2016, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa. Born April 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Hilton and Carey Graham Harvey of Greenwood.
Mrs. Frey attended Central High School and Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. After marriage to her husband, John, she resided with him in Athens, Georgia; Ames, Iowa; and State College, Pennsylvania. She and her husband retired to Monroe, North Carolina in 1982, moved to Whitefish, Montana in 2007, and to Denison, Iowa in 2011.
Her primary emphasis in life was homemaking, antiquing and volunteer work. She held various offices and coordinated events for hospitals, libraries and numerous social organizations.
In State College, Pennsylvania, that included the Women’s Club of State College, and the Faculty Women’s Club of the Pennsylvania State University. She served as Event Coordinator with the Hospital Auxiliary Board of State College. In this capacity, she established an antique show that is still held annually, after a period of more than thirty years. Proceeds from this event are made available to the community hospital.
While in Monroe, Mrs. Frey was a member of The Friends of the Hospital Ball and served on Monroe’s first Ball Committee. Other Monroe organizations with which she was affiliated are: the DAR, the Monroe Garden Club, the Heritage Book Club, the Friends of the Library Board, the 39ers Dance Club, and the Mr. And Mrs. Club. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Monroe.
Mrs. Frey’s favorite hobby and avocation was china painting. She created many fine works of art, taught classes in china painting for fifteen years, and at one time served as President of the Pennsylvania Federation of China Painters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John C. Frey; and her sister, Hazel. She is survived by a daughter, Susan, and a son, John Hilton; nieces, nephews and cousins in North Carolina and Iowa.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eventide Lutheran Home for their loving care of Jane in her final years and the staff at Huebner Funeral Home for their services.
