Janet Carol (Clark) Freie of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on February 2, 2025 in Overland Park, Kansas after a brief illness. She was born to Mary Cleota “Tote” and Donald Clark on May 25, 1943 and raised on the family's farms near Dow City, Iowa. She graduated from Dow City High School, Iowa State University (BA, English) and the University of Missouri (MS, Education). She married Gary Freie in 1965 and, after his military service, they settled in Columbia, Missouri. She was employed as a high school English teacher, a computer programmer /analyst at the University of Missouri and Computer Information Systems instructor at William Woods College.
She is survived by her daughter, Carissa Jacobs, JD, and son-in-law Douglas Zolotor, of Kansas City, Missouri; her son, Jordan Freie, MD, and daughter-in-law Jennifer Freie, PhD, along with their sons, Nolan and Milo, of Creve Coeur, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; their infant children, Jason and Marissa; and sister, LaDonna Mastromatteo.
Burial near her husband and children in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa will follow a private family funeral.
