Jerald “Jerry” William Segebart was born in Carroll, Iowa, on September 23, 1944. He was the youngest of three boys to Edward and Margaret Segebart. He was baptized and confirmed into faith at St. John Lutheran Church, Deloit, Iowa.
Jerry was raised on a farm in Deloit, Iowa. He attended multiple country schools and finished his education at the Deloit Public School. He remained in Deloit and farmed with his father along with working for other farmers doing various farm tasks.
Jerry met Paula Keesling and later they were united in marriage on May 15, 1971. They made their home outside Deloit and raised their two daughters Kelly and Jeri Lynn.
After farming for several years, Jerry branched out and started doing custom farming that included baling and bulldozing. His main passion remained his cattle – raising numerous breeds including a few Texas longhorns. He also raised goats, hogs and emus. Jerry’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and trapping. He also enjoyed many hours riding the Trail 90 and his many 4-wheelers.
Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always had a quick wit and a naughty grin as he spun a tall tale and rekindled childhood memories. His stories never failed to make people smile. He never met a stranger and would visit with everyone.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Edward; mother, Margaret; and brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife, Paula; two daughters, Kelly and her husband, Steve, and Jeri Lynn and her husband, Chris; five grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Nicole, Brooke and Megan; two step grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley; three great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward and his wife, Carol; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Jerry’s final wishes are as follows: “I want to be at home close to my love, my kids and my coffee pot. I don’t want to do this to my family anymore. The only things I’m going to miss are my wife, my kids, my grandchildren, great-grandchildren and my cattle.”
