Jerome Victor DeMuth was born April 3, 1940, the son of Victor and Augusta Eilers DeMuth. He passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 72.
Jerry was born in Varina, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa, in 1940 and received his first communion there in 1946. Jerry received his education in the St. Joseph Catholic School in Milford through seventh grade and then Okoboji Consolidated and Milford High School graduating with the class of 1957. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 25, 1958, serving his country as an engine room crewman. Before receiving his honorable discharge on September 12, 1962, he was promoted to the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Jerry was united in marriage to Jean Ann Struck in 1964 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison by Rev. Father Jerome Koenig. In 1968 the couple bought their first home and adopted their first son, Christopher followed by their second son, Paul in 1971. Jerry was employed as a Woodmen Life Representative in 1969 and also sold real estate for the McCord Agency. Jerry earned the following awards from Woodmen Life: National Sales Achievement, National Quality, Million Dollar Round Table, Assurity Company, Leading Producer, TOP Club, and the Presidents Club. Jerry was a member of the American Legion for over 28 years and the VFW for over 35 years. He served on the Denison Chamber of Commerce, Denison Country Club Board, Crawford County Development Corporation, Crawford County Planning and Zoning Committee, and the Crawford County Compensation Board. Jerry was united in marriage to Shirley Anderson on December 15, 2009, at the Courthouse in Laughlin, Nevada.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, Little League Baseball, and playing cards with his friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jean Ann in 2003; and infant brother, Steven in 1939. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons: Christopher; and Paul; three stepchildren: Scott; Kristie; and Brian; two grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; three brothers: Paul and his wife, Cindi; David and his wife, Linda; and Richard and his wife, Gaye Ann; one sister, Judy and her husband, Wayne; other relatives and friends.
