Jessie Jaacks

Jessie Dora Jaacks was born October 1, 1911, the daughter of John D. and Freda Jensen Moeller. She died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-eight.
Jessie was born, the oldest child of five, on a farm in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ and confirmed at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa, in 1928. She attended rural school near her home and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1931.
On March 29, 1933, Jessie was united in marriage to Walter H. Jaacks at Schleswig, Iowa. The couple settled on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of three children. In 1987 the couple retired from their farming career of fifty-four years and moved to Denison.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was very important to her and thought of Mom as Martha, in regards to her being a homemaker all her life and because of her devotion to Jesus. Known for her cooking and baking, she enjoyed hosting social gatherings and always had food and coffee to share. She was fascinated with and spent many hours working on family history and geneology. Scrapbooking was also a favorite pastime. Together with her husband, Walter, they collected antiques. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter, 1996; one infant son, Louis, 1942, and son, Willis, 2005; one sister, Louise Hinrichsen; three brothers: John, George and Hugo. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette Flagge and her husband, Tom of Fort Dodge, Iowa; four grandchildren: Jon Jaacks and his wife, Pat of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jill Barnhart and her husband Phil of Portland, Oregon; Jay Jaacks and his wife Melissa of Portland, Oregon; Andy Flagge of Mason City, Iowa; three great-grandchildren: Kyle and Eric Jaacks of Lincoln, Nebraska; Hayden Jaacks of Portland, Oregon; one sister-in-law, Bernice Moeller of Denison; other relatives and friends.
