Jimmy V. Schmidt

October 12, 1957 — February 4, 2016

Jimmy Virgil Schmidt was born October 12, 1957, the son of Virgil and Ruth Schmidt. He passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, at the age of fifty-eight.
Jimmy was born in Denison, Iowa, and baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. He attended the Schleswig Community School District graduating with the class of 1975. Jimmy was a very hard-working man who loved working on the farm and splitting wood. He was employed at Farmers Lumber and Grain in Schleswig (1975-1983), Peets feed District Manager (1984-1986), owned and operated a semi-truck hauling for Silvercreek Livestock (1987-1991), and sold Bridgestone/Firestone tires for Mr. Tire and CFI tire in the Sioux City-Omaha-Ames area (1992-2012).
On July 29, 1977, Jimmy was united in marriage to Jean Marquardt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, they were blessed with the birth of four children. From 1977-1992 the family lived on Glad Street in Schleswig before moving to the family farm from 1992-2013. He was a very kind and compassionate husband, father and grandfather who valued his loved ones. For nineteen years Jimmy enjoyed the families 4th of July Bash where he played volleyball, grilled chicken, and socialized with family and friends.
Jimmy was an outdoors man who enjoyed long weekend father-son fishing trips to Minnesota with his father, his friends and their fathers. He also enjoyed hunting with friends, especially black powder hunting at his brother’s home, camping with friends and family, horseback riding, golfing and having friends out to the farm. Jimmy’s favorite down time activity was watching westerns, especially John Wayne, The Rifleman and Bonanza, as well as James Bond movies.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Jean; two sons: Jamos and his wife, Gina; and Jace; two daughters: Jaclyn and her husband, Tony; and J’Lynn; three grandchildren: Taylor, Taryn and Tate; one brother, Joel and his wife, Holly; one sister, Janie and her husband, Walt; many other relatives and friends.
