Joan Marie Segebart

December 13, 1947 — February 23, 2013

Joan Marie Segebart was born December 13, 1947, the daughter of Leonard and Martha Janning Hoffmann. She passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 65.
Joan was born in Carroll, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church where she began her lifelong commitment to her faith. She attended school in Willey and St. Josephs Catholic School in Carroll. Joan obtained her GED in June of 1988. She worked as a waitress and cook in Carroll and Denison until 2002 when she went to work for Mosaic as a direct support staff member and earned her CNA and CMA at WIT in Denison that same year.
On December 30, 1968 Joan was united in marriage to Charles Segebart in Denison. They were blessed with four children Marilyn, Valerie, Charles, and Cheryl. The couple made their home in Denison, and the last eight years in Schleswig, Iowa.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her life and she was selfless when it came to caring for them and others. She loved family gatherings and was her families biggest fan and loudest cheerleader at their sporting events, never missing a game. Joan enjoyed reading, gardening, and planting flowers. She also enjoyed cooking and making desserts, especially making cookies with her grandchildren. She was very fond of her little Pekingese dog, Maggie. Joan was a social person and liked to visit with friends over a game of cards and coffee at Cheetas every Monday, and was also an avid bowler, participating in league and many tournaments through the years. Joan was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where she was involved in the Eucharistic Ministry. She was a spiritual liaison at Mosaic and really loved the people she cared for there.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Elmer Hoffmann. Survivors include her husband, Charles of Schleswig; three daughters: Marilyn Mathison and her husband, Chris of Woodbine, Iowa; Valerie Ipsen and her husband, Mike; Cheryl Schultz; and one son, Charles, Jr., and his wife, Judy; all of Schleswig; fifteen grandchildren: Matthew, Mackenzie, Brooke, Nathanial, Lucas, Kassidy, Olivia, Elyse, Charlie, Hannah, Lee, Cole, Jack, Sophia, and Lillian; four great-grandchildren: Jadon, Bentley, Draven, and Luella; three sisters: Janice Feilmeier of Elk River, Minnesota; Elsie Willenborg of Carroll, Iowa; and Carolyn Winslow of Ada, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends.
