John Albert Namanny was born on March 13, 1961, the son of Wilbert and Maxine (Hansohn) Namanny in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized into Christ and attended Sunday school and confirmation at St. John Lutheran Church near Kiron. John received his education from Denison High School and graduated with the class of 1979.
Following graduation, John started work in the agricultural industry, farming with Reggie Bruhn for 20 years. He then worked for Dale Gronau for over 25 years, as well as Steve Winquist and other local farmers, helping with various farming chores.
John was always a farm boy at heart. He looked forward to planting in the spring and harvesting in the fall. He was not a world traveler, but he did make it to Las Vegas with some friends. That was always an adventure to him that he enjoyed reminiscing. His brother-in-law, Mike Lickteig helped encourage John to travel out of Kiron, even if it was just the two of them on a semi ride. John picked up his love of fishing from his father, and he had some very funny stories he would tell. Gardening, tractor pulls and watching sports on TV were some of his favorite things. John led a quiet and humble life, and he would help anyone who needed it. After the death of his mother, he stepped up and cared for his father. He also took care of his brother Jim, following his disabling brain aneurysm and stroke. John cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
John passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at his home at the age of 62 years and six months.
John was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Nicole Namanny; and brother-in-law, Reggie Bruhn. He is survived by his siblings: Kathy (Mike) Lickteig of Kiron, Debbie Bruhn of Schleswig, Rebecca (Mitchell) Schwarz of Schleswig, James Namanny of Kiron, and Pamela (Charles) Lackman of Denison; nieces and nephews: Erika Bygness, Jordan Lickteig, Taylor Lickteig, Derick Bruhn, Clinton Bruhn, Aaron Schwarz, Zachary Schwarz, Kelsey Weltz, Hollie Weltz, Nicholas Lackman, Megan Lackman, and Brooke Stungis; many great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
