John R. Venteicher was born in Carroll, Iowa, February 23, 1955, the son of Louis and Mary Ann Venteicher. He died at his home in rural Defiance, Iowa, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the age of sixty-one.
John grew up in Carroll and received his education in the Carroll Community High School, graduating with the class of 1973. After completing his education, he enlisted in the US Army where he began a 20 year career serving his country. While in the Army, he continued his education with various college courses and management courses that included computer classes, chemical defense courses and leadership school and served as an Army Recruiter in both Council Bluffs and Denison. During his military career, he was decorated with the Meritorious service medal, Army Comendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defence Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Badge and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge. During his service, he served more than 7 years in foreign service and was honorably discharged from the Army in June of 1993.
John was united in marriage to Myong Hui You in Soul South Korea, July 18, 1978. The couple was blessed with the birth of two children. In recent years, worked for Neppl Realty in Denison. In his leisure time, John enjoyed Walleye fishing in Minnesota with friends, joking and telling stories, listening to Classic Rock music, annual attendance of the Indy 500, entertaining family and friends on Super Bowl Sundays and other family gatherings. His favorite football teams were the Chicago Bears and Cubs. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, attending Thanks Giving Dinners at church. His benevolent character is demonstrated by his activities in church and helping the food pantry and helping and giving to others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Judith and one brother, Louie. Survivors include his wife, Myong; one daughter, Tricia her husband, Zach, one son, Josh; five sisters, Jo Ann and her husband, Mick; Joyce and her husband, Pete; Janice and her husband, Fred; Jean and her husband, Jim; Janell and her husband, Rick; and two brothers, Jerry and Joe and his wife, Raelene; and one sister-in-law Patti several nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
