Johnnie W. Deconnick

Johnnie William DeConnick was born April 2, 1948, the son of Joseph and Bernice DeConnick. He passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-one.
John received his education at a rural school, at Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Denison High School. Following graduation, he farmed on the family farm north of Dow City. John served his country in the United States Army in the Light Weapons Infantry from April 3, 1968 until January 29, 1970. He frequently walked point during combat missions and received a purple heart for injuries suffered during action in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and was awarded a combat infantry badge and sharp shooter badge. John was united in marriage to Wanda Williams December 22, 2006, in Denison, where they made their home. He was employed in the construction industry as a roofer.
Fishing at Lake View and Okoboji, playing pool “billiards”, and watching professional wrestling and football were his favorite pastime activities. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. John also found great pleasure in going to car shows with Wanda, as well as seeing monster trucks and tractor pulls, attending regional shows and at the State and Spencer Fairs. He helped Randy Harm with his car and was with the pit crew at car races. John enjoyed working in the yard and in the flower beds. He also liked word search and number find games. John especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being with his family. He was generous and helpful to anyone in need and opened his home to his children as they needed and helped them around their homes.
John was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia. Survivors include: his wife, Wanda; his children: Joel, Wesley and his wife, Samantha, Adrian and friend, Mike, and Heather and her husband, Josh; seven grandchildren; one brother, Bernard and his wife, Shannon; and brother-in-law, Allan; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
