Joleen Johannsen (Lafrenz) Boeck was born August 8, 1929, in Denison, Iowa, to Henry and Lizzie (Johannsen) Lafrenz. She died Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-six.
Joleen was baptized in infancy and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion in 1943. She spent her childhood in Denison and attended the Denison Community Schools, graduating from Denison High School in the class of 1947. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) and the University of Iowa. On July 20, 1950 in Denison, Iowa, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Richard Boeck. To this union three children were born, Nicolette Jo, Stephanie Ann and Douglas Richard.
Richard and Joleen made their home in Valparaiso, Indiana for one year, while Richard was at the University. They then lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for 3 years where Joleen was employed at Iowa Life Insurance Company. They moved to Denison in 1954, where she made her home until her death. She was bookkeeper at their NAPA parts store and later at Nimble Print.
Joleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Douglas Richard; one brother, Lester and one sister, Darlene, both died before Joleen was born. Survivors include two daughters: Nicolette and her husband, Dan; and Stephanie and her husband, Jeff ; two granddaughters: Jennifer and Alyssa; one grandson, Tracy; and numerous other relatives and friends.
