Joseph Alan Muff was born December 19, 1947, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Rosemary Muff. He passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018, at his home in Dow City, Iowa, at the age of seventy.
Joe (also known as Blue) received his education in the Dow City schools and graduated as valedictorian of the Dow City High School Class of 1966. He furthered his education at Iowa State University where he received a bachelor’s degree. After college, Joe returned to Dow City and began his life-long career of farming with his family. In 1970, he joined the National Guard, serving with the 133rd Infantry for 6 years. On November 27, 1993, Joe was united in marriage to Joyce Emmeck Paige.
Reading history, especially about the Civil War, was Joe’s passion and he and Joyce were privileged to make several trips to Gettysburg. Watching documentaries also provided him much pleasure. In his earlier years, Joe enjoyed hunting with his brothers and skiing in Colorado. He was a very kind hearted and compassionate person.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Joyce; and one brother, Harold. Survivors include: four brothers: Larry and his wife, Judy; Richard and his wife, Jeanne; Robert and his wife, Gloria; and Tom and his wife, Karen; four sister: Marilyn and her husband Roger; Janet and her husband, Joel; Barbara and her husband, Tom; and Donna and her husband, Dan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
