Joyce Eileen Blizzard was born April 11, 1942, the daughter of Alfred and Katherine Didier Hast. She passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of sixty-eight.
Joyce was born in Buck Grove, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and then became Catholic after she was married. She received her elementary education in Buck Grove and attended Denison High School in Denison, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1961. After graduation she moved to Omaha to work in a bank. On April 24, 1965, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Kruse in Denison, Iowa. The couple made their home in Denison and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. In 1991 she moved to Arkansas and on June 23, 1999, she married Fred Blizzard. She returned to Denison in August 2010.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She dearly loved her family and reared her children to be strong. She taught them values and character and how to be thrifty. She enjoyed cooking, especially with her grandchildren. Bowling and socializing with family over a game of cards were favorite activities. She was fascinated with history and loved watching the History Channel, mostly Victorian history and WW II. She enjoyed traveling to England and Scotland.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred in 2000; Colleen and Kathys father, Bill Kruse in 2007; an infant daughter; and one brother, Robert Hast. Survivors include two daughters: Colleen McLaughlin and her husband, Wayne of Denison, Iowa; and Kathy Fetters of Bentonville, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Corey McLaughlin, Kurtis McLaughlin, Raechel Hollander and Sarah Fetters; one sister, Dorothy Hanks of Annapolis, Maryland; one brother, David Hast and his wife, Arlene of Denison, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
