Julie Mooney

June 5, 1960 — June 1, 2011

Julie Ann Mooney was born June 5, 1960, the daughter of Arlo and Alice Wenzel Bornhoft. She died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of fifty.
Julie was born in Carroll, Iowa, and grew up in Manilla, Iowa. She received her education in the Manilla Community High School, graduating with the class of 1978. After high school, she worked for a short time before continuing her education at the Boone campus of the Des Moines Area Community College.
She was baptized in Christ on July 24, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith there on June 9, 1974. On April 9, 1994, Julie was united in marriage to Patrick Mooney at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. The couple settled in Denison and was blessed with the birth of one daughter. She served Crawford County as a First Responder and as the Activity Director at both the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla and the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
The love of her family, her zest for life and her courage gave Julie the strength to endure diabetes, cancer and six organ transplants in her quest to live with her family. Her main interests were her family as she focused on Alyson and her school activities. Other interests include: collecting rocks, polishing many of them with her lapidary equipment, reading, music, drawing, and painting art. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, and caring for her plants and flowers. In her younger years, she enjoyed vacations the family took to Perham, Minnesota, where she was able to swim in nearby lakes.
She is preceded in death by her father, Arlo; one brother, Doug and his wife, Sheila; and one brother-in-law, Brad. Survivors include: her husband, Patrick of Denison; her daughter, Alyson Rose at home; her mother, Alice; two brothers: Denny and his wife, Sara; Byron and his wife, Patty; and her sister, Lana; nieces; nephews; other relatives, and many friends.
