Karen A. Slechta

Karen A. Slechta was born May 21, 1942, at Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Werner and Anita Rath. She passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-six.
Karen was baptized in Christ June 26, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed her faith at the same church April 14, 1957. She received her education in the Denison area schools. On September 9, 1961, Karen was united in marriage to Darrell Slechta and they were blessed with three children: Todd, Mark and Lisa. Karen was a homemaker and also was employed as bookkeeper for Slechta Masonry and dietary aide at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.
Known to many as “Ma Fred” and “Grandma Fred”, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her and gave her much pleasure. She also had a special place in her heart for her dog “Maggie”. She liked to cook, garden and watch National Geographic, HGTV and her soap operas on television.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters-in-law, Alice Riley and Ruby Christensen; and three brothers-in-law, Jerry Slechta, Brad Riley and Clarence Weatherman. Survivors include: her husband of fifty-seven years, Darrell; two sons, Todd and his wife, Joni, and Mark and Kitty; one daughter, Lisa and her husband, Jeff; grandchildren: Darren and Krystin; Megan and Joshua; Morgan and Bryan; Landon; April and Aaron; Alisa and Joshua; Andrea and fianc Dalton; Abby and Kirk; Devyn and fianc Max; great-grandchildren: Jayden, Braxten, Kinnick; Jonah and Makena; Brooklyn; Kinnick, Kara, Hayes, Mia and Elise; Miles; one brother, Robert and his wife, Darlene; two sisters, Donna and Cindy; in-laws, Dennis and Ellie, Ron and Helen, Phyllis, James and Paulette, Ann, and Mike and Dawn; great-aunt, Carmen; other relatives and friends.
