Kathryn M. Clausen

Kathryn Marie Clausen was born on December 11, 1942, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gertrude Asmus. She passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-six.
Kathy was baptized in Christ on January 17, 1943, and confirmed her faith on May 4, 1958, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, where she was a life-long member and a 4th grade Sunday School teacher for many years. She received her education in the Schleswig Community Schools and graduated from Schleswig High School.
On April 17, 1960, Kathy was united in marriage with Verdell Clausen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. They made their home on a farm in Soldier Township and were blessed with three children. Following Verdell's retirement in 2002, they moved into Schleswig. In 2015, Kathy moved to Silveridge in Denison, Iowa.
Kathy started her postal career in Ricketts as clerk, then postmaster-in-training at Arthur and Holstein. She then moved up the ranks to position of postmaster in both Ricketts and Charter Oak from 1983 until 2004, when she retired to enjoy time with her husband.
Kathy was a passionate reader, enjoying historical romance and adventure fiction. Traveling was also a favorite leisure-time activity and she enjoyed trips to Europe and Hawaii as well as cruises to Alaska, Panama and the Carribean. Ladies Night and couples golfing also provided many hours of pleasure. She enjoyed socializing at Cousins Club and multiple bridge clubs with friends and family.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verdell in 2005; two brothers, Charles and Billy; and three sisters, Dorothy, LaVerle and Ruth. Survivors include: two daughters, Kari and her husband, James, and Amy and her husband, Jason; one son, Randall and his wife, Lisa; five grandchildren, Jay, Josie, Sara, Camryn, and Samuel; three sisters, Marilyn and her husband, Leonard, Marjorie, and Shirley; and other relatives and friends.
