Kenneth Vincent Launderville was born September 28, 1953, the son of James and Ruby Book Launderville. He died January 6, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of fifty-seven.
Kenny was born in Denison and was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. He began his education at St. Anns Catholic School in Vail, and completed his education in the Denison Community High School, graduating with the class of 1972. After completing his education, he farmed with his dad and also at Launderville Construction. He then began his seven year employment with the meat packing industry. For two years, Kenny worked for Eddie Gierning, who treated Kenny like a son.
Kenny moved to Alaska, and in the twenty years of living in the north west, he worked in numerous jobs that included: the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad at Skagway, Alaska for one year; then for Fort Wayne Rite Hospital at Fairbanks, Alaska where he remained for ten years. In his spare time, he worked on cars with Bobby Bissell while and sold them. He also lived in an apartment below Dan and Belinda Bissell and babysat their children, painted, laid carpeting and tile in their rental apartments when he was off work. He then worked for Bill Titus in the North Star Boroegs School District where he worked for four years. He moved to North Carolina for six months where he worked as a mechanic before returning to Alaska where he was employed by the gold mine called Fort Knox where he worked for five years blasting and blew at 3 P.M. daily. His work schedule began at 6 A.M. and ended at 6 P.M. with weekly alternating day and night shifts that included one week off when he and the gang he worked with would go fishing for Halibut and Salmon in Valdez, located in the south eastern part of the state. Kenny used to say "they went to Halibut just for the Hell of it."
In 2003, Kenny was diagnosed with kidney, liver and lung cancer. After losing one of his kidneys, Kenny moved back to Iowa where he bought a house in Odebolt, Iowa. He enjoyed sitting on his picnic bench and waiving at his friends drinking Pepsi. He loved his neighborhood, Dorothy and Carols cookies, going to his mothers house daily, giving her rides and sharing numerous memories with family and friends. After moving back to Iowa, Kenny enjoyed fishing with Gary Rohlf and playing the guitar.
