Kenneth W. Miller

April 24, 1961 — December 19, 2018

Kenneth (Ken) Wayne Miller was born on April 24, 1961, the second child of Wayne and Joyce Miller. Surrounded by his loving family, he died on December 19, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa following a brave battle against a failing heart.
Ken received his education in the Schleswig Public Schools graduating from Schleswig High School (SHS) in May 1979. From a young age, he demonstrated an affinity for making friends and playing sports. Ken played catcher on the baseball team, linebacker and running back for the SHS Hawks, forward on the basketball team, and was a runner on the track team; he received many recognitions for his athletic accomplishments. He was also active in Boy Scouts achieving the Eagle Scout Award on December 21, 1977.
Immediately following high school, Ken pursued collegiate studies at the University of South Dakota (USD) graduating in May 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Business. While at USD, he was a member of the Coyotes football team until a knee injury forced him to quit. Ken was employed in the construction industry beginning with Pulte Homes in Denver, Colorado, and ending with MP Construction of Denison, Iowa. For many years, he also worked for Crawford County Roads.
Ken was very proud of his home community and actively supported several Schleswig programs and events, including volunteering as an announcer for the Calf Show Days parade, coaching youth athletic teams, and serving on the Schleswig Golf Course Board.
Ken was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and gained strength from his Lord and Savior during times of trial and struggles. He was an elder of Immanuel Lutheran Church from 2010-2016.
During Ken's life of fifty-seven years, he made numerous friends who describe him as very kind-hearted and always willing to listen or recount a funny story. His favorite hobbies and past-times were reading, playing golf, hunting, fishing -- and being a passionate fan of the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Ken is survived by his parents, Wayne and Joyce; his daughter, Makayla and special friend, Wyatt; one sister, Dr. Kristy; two brothers, Kurt and his wife, Kerri, and Kipp; two nephews, Jorgen and Blake; and two nieces, Mackenzie and Colette.
