Kenneth Eugene Winsor was born on December 16, 1928, the son of Charles and Dagmar (Jensen) Winsor in Irwin, Iowa. He was baptized into Christ on June 6, 1957, at the Methodist church in Irwin. He later confirmed his faith at and became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church on February 10, 1957. Kenneth graduated from Irwin High School with the class of 1946.
Having met Lorna Johannsen while roller skating in Denison, Kenneth and Lorna were united in marriage on June 11, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Their union was blessed with four children: Peggy, Mark, Marsha, and Lori.
Kenneth farmed west of Schleswig from 1954 until 1984. Following his farming career, he worked for Farmer’s Feed and Grain until his retirement. He then began driving his own grain truck, which he did for many years. Kenneth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He enjoyed people and conversations. He had a quick whit with a great sense of humor; he always had a new story to share. Some of his favorite pastimes in his younger years were playing euchre, dancing, camping and boating. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Kenneth passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the age of 94 years, eight months and 26 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorna Winsor; son, Mark Winsor; daughter, Peggy Winsor; son-in-law, Donald Schwartz; and Thelma (Lester)Hargens, Lois Anderson, Melba (Ray) Kolln, and Howard Christensen. He is survived by two daughters: Marsha Schwartz of Smithville, Missouri and Lori (Russ) Johannsen of Schleswig; six grandchildren: Heidi (Ryan) Crawford of Manning, Adam (Kerrie) Schwartz of Kansas City, Missouri, Justin Johannsen (Jaide Wulf) of Schleswig, Heath Winsor of Des Moines, Trisha (Jeff) Koenck of Council Bluffs, Calvin Johannsen of Des Moines; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (Vic) Schwiesow of Manning; sister-in-law, Edna Mae Johannsen of Ida Grove; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family greeting friends will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with burial to follow in the Morgan Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to family.
