Kermit Greenstreet

Kermit Johnson Greenstreet was born on April 17, 1929, the son of Edwin and Esther Johnson Greenstreet. He passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of eighty two.
Kermit was born in Ticonic, Iowa and grew up near Moorhead, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ at the Turin Methodist Church in Turin, Iowa, on April 17, 1938. He received his education in the Castana Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1948. He entered the United States Army on February 11, 1953 serving with the 517th Military Police. Kermit received his honorable discharge on December 29, 1954, earning a Korean Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Schultz on January 11, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, they farmed in Crawford County most of their lives and were blessed with the birth of two children.
After Evelyn became homebound, Kermit lovingly took care of her. He was a caring and loving man, and also very independent and strong-willed. He was always willing to assist anyone needing help. Kermit enjoyed living life and spending time outdoors. Some of his favorite activities included planting flowers, fishing and hunting, especially coon hunting. He also enjoyed doing research on the internet and sharing all of his new found wisdom.
Kermit is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Evelyn in 2002. He is survived by one son, Russell; and one daughter, Jacqueline and special friend, Larry; three grandchildren, Brandon, Angela, and Kimberly and their families; one brother, Gale and his wife, Joan; as well as, many other relatives and friends.
