Kevin Terry Jahn was born January 29, 1955, to Arlo Paul Jahn and Arlene Maggie Malinda Jahn in Crawford County, Hayes Township, Manning, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at his home outside Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-two.
Kevin was baptized as an infant in 1955 by Rev A.F. Rinne and confirmed by Rev. Ralph Ratzlaff both at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa, where he also attended as a member of the church. He attended the Manning School till his parents moved to Denison in 1963 where he continued his education, graduating in 1973. While in school, Kevin enjoyed school activities, bible school, confirmation, guitar lessons and Cardinals baseball games, where he was pitcher for the team.
He delivered the Des Moines Tribune in 1965, and then worked at the Denison Newspaper followed by working at Safeway in the produce department for three years. After graduation Kevin started working in the construction field at C & H Lumber & Supply, Big C Lumber & Supply and in 1981 he was employed by Circle B Cashway until 1994. After that time he worked for independent contractors such as Bob Henderson Custom Woodworking then with Hermie Rosburg, working as far as Nebraska, South Sioux City and Minnesota. Kevin became a self-employed contractor in 2000. During this time he also worked part-time for Reed House Assisted Living as the maintenance tech. In1975 Kevin rented a farm house northwest of Denison on 4 acres of land. He purchased the acreage in 1990.
In his leisure time Kevin enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and dogs. He also enjoyed the Show and Shine Car Shows and trips in his custom 1940 Chevy, 1956 4-door Belair and his 1967 2-door Cutlass Supreme cars he restored and entered into competition. Since 1975, he enjoyed the country atmosphere, pretty sunsets and barbecue cookouts at his acreage that he shared with family and friends. His parents Arlo and Arlene also loved spending time with Kevin at the acreage. Kevin’s love and passion was spent with his devoted dog companions. His dogs kept watch of the acreage while he was off the property. Everywhere he went the dogs were by his side. BJ (Bear Junior) being his most recent sidekick, went with Kevin to visit and be spoiled by Arlene in her home, and later at the Denison Care Center. Anyone who spent time with Kevin would feel at ease with him. He was very compassionate and easy to talk to.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Arlo and Arlene; and two brothers, Terry and Brian. Survivors include aunts, uncles, many cousins, other relatives and friends.
