Lanny Ray DeMey was born July 26, 1946, in Denison, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Shirley DeMey. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and his best girl, Molly, on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
Lanny received his education at East School in Sioux City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Joyce McCutcheon March 14, 1965, and the couple was blessed with the birth of four children, DeAnn, Christine, Rick and Adam. On June 6, 2008, Lanny and Mary Harvey were united in marriage in Denison, Iowa. Lanny farmed for a while and than began his career in maintenance, first being employed at Farmland and then at Millard Warehouse as plant engineer in Denison.
Lanny raised his family on the farm south of Dow City, Iowa, and loved teaching his kids how to ride horses. He spent many evenings in the farrowing barn with his kids. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his German Shorthairs and over the years had Sherlock, Max, Katie, Buddy and Molly. He took Molly for a ride around the section every day and they both enjoyed this daily ritual. Lanny also loved gardening and landscaping. He had a beautiful yard and took great pride in it. He enjoyed raising a large garden each year and sharing the bounty with his family and friends. He also enjoyed going to coffee with his friends every morning.
