Larry Ray Arn was born February 27, 1968, the son of Jerry and Shirley Schwenneker Arn. He passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the age of 45.
Larry was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on March 31, 1968, at St. John Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on April 4, 1982. Larry received his education in the Denison Community Schools graduating with the class of 1986. He furthered his education at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, graduating in May of 1991. While still in college, Larry worked part-time for the Iowa Department of Transportation. After graduation he continued to work for the DOT until he became employed full-time in December of 1993. He first worked as a Right-of-Way Agent in Advertising. In March of 1999 he transferred to the Appraisal Section and earned his Certified General Appraisers license in November 1999 and remained in that Section also becoming a Right-Of-Way Agent 3.
Larry spent as much time as he could with his family and friends and enjoyed playing cards together or taking family vacations to Branson and Minnesota. He was very fond of his nephews and nieces and loved to tease them. His heart never left Denison and he came home every weekend to the farm where he and his brothers kept busy raising exotic pheasants and quail to sell. Larry enjoyed cooking, especially pheasant, goose and duck dishes. Other activities Larry occupied his spare time with included camping, hunting and fishing, and restoring Model As. Larry was handy and enjoyed woodworking. True to his alma mater, Larry closely followed Iowa State football and basketball games. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Arn in 2009; his grandparents, Raymond and Leona Arn; and Lawrence and Gladys Schwenneker. Survivors include his mother, Shirley Arn of Denison; two brothers: Jeff Arn and Jason Arn and his wife, Jean of Denison; three sisters: Lori Wight and her husband, Mike of Denison; Kristi Herbst and her husband, Tim of Harlan; Staci Neumann and her husband, Jim of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
