Larry Joseph Halbur was born on January 6, 1942 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of William and Frances (Irlmeier) Halbur. Larry's journey was one filled with hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family. He completed the first 8 years of his education at St. Augustine School in Halbur, IA. After that he attended St. Henry's Seminary in Belleville, IL for two years. He finally continued on to carve a very successful career path for himself. He was the proud owner of Carpet Specialties from 1974 to 1986 in Denison and continued as a skilled carpet installer until 2004.
Undoubtedly, Larry's proudest accomplishments were centered around family. On November 23, 1963, he married JoAnn Riesberg in Carroll, their union was blessed with five children. In 1986, they made a significant move from Denison to Visalia, CA, before returning to Iowa in 2004.
Larry had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy throughout his life. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. A passionate Cubs fan, Larry enjoyed attending or watching as many games as possible. Playing softball with his team, The Carpetbaggers, created many fond memories. Post-game gatherings on the deck became treasured moments filled with laughter and camaraderie.
His green thumb was evident in his love for gardening and he enjoyed engaging in lively card games, especially Euchre. One of his favorite pastimes was exploring different parts of the world, particularly Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, and Alaska. Additionally, Larry found solace in playing his harmonica, even if he hadn’t learned a new song to play in 60 years. Above all else, Larry loved his family more than anything.
