Larry Lee Winans was born June 26, 1942, at Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Betty Winans. Raised by Henry & Lillian Winans. He passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Select Specialty Therapy in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of seventy-six.
Larry was baptized in Christ and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1961. After graduating High School he served his country in the United States Navy as an electrical repairman from December 27, 1963, until January 22, 1968, when he was honorably discharged. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two campaign stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He then furthered his education at Estherville Junior College.
Larry was blessed with the birth of three children: Nolan, Tracie & Mandi.
On June 20, 1994, Larry was united in marriage to Carla Furne. Larry spent his years of employment as a federal meat inspector and was now retired.
Larry was a faithful Denison Monarchs fan, enjoyed golf and football, of which he was an excellent participant, proudly served as an umpire for little league baseball and liked to watch college football, Jepordy & the Big Bang Theory. Larry enjoyed his family and was confident and comfortable with his life and family and loved embarrassing his children when they were young. Larry recently attended a Navy reunion for the USS Intrepid, in New York. The couple enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Jamaica and several places in the United States, but New York City was the best they experienced. Larry was fun loving, extraverted with a fun personality and never met a stranger.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Henry and Lillian; mother, Betty; four sisters: Bonnie, Maxine, Donna and JoAnn; two brothers: Henry "Sonny" and Robert "Bob"; in-laws: Edward and Ida, Willis, Frederick, Edward, Richard, Marge, Andrew and Robin, Marla and Virgil, Frances and Jerry. Survivors include: his wife, Carla; one son, Nolan; two daughters, Tracie and her husband, David, and Mandi and her husband, Trevor; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; in-laws: Craig, Kendall, Wesley and his wife, Diane, Dennis and his wife, Elaine, Roger and his wife, Judy, and Leanna; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
