Larry M Crosgrove

September 14, 1937 — August 23, 2015

Larry Max Crosgrove was born at the home of his grandparents, George and Eunice Johnson, near Mapleton, Iowa on September 14, 1937; the son of Lawrence and Dorothy Crosgrove. He died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at his home in Ute, Iowa at the age of seventy-seven.
Larry was born and raised in rural Mapleton, Iowa and received his education in the Castana and Soldier Community Schools. On October 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Imogene (Jean) Treece. The couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa where Larry worked for the Sioux City Stockyards. He then began working in construction, which took him on the road in Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas. The family lived in California from 1963 to 1969, where Larry was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric. In 1969, they moved to Ute and started Larry’s Backhoe Service; which began his business of opening and closing graves. Larry serviced over 40 cemeteries; the first being Castana.
In the '70s and '80s, Larry enjoyed competing in pickup pulls and occasionally announced at them. Upon retirement, Larry purchased his first GoldWing trike and experienced many adventures on the road. He was very friendly and could always be found socializing over a cup of coffee with his friends, and his favorite saying was,” If it's almost right, it's wrong.” Larry was a very kind and caring man to everyone, and loved to offer help to anyone in need.
Survivors include: his wife, Jean and little friend Lucy; one daughter, Christine and her husband, Jerome; three sons: Steve and his wife, Teresa; Terry and his wife, DeeDee; Darwin and his wife, Laura; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
