Larry Slechta

Lawrence K. Slechta was born August 6, 1940, the son of Orville and Vera Slechta. He passed away February 11, 2015, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-four.
Larry was born in Denison, Iowa and attended the Denison Community School District. On August 15, 1959, Larry was united in marriage to Lorraine Jeanette Martens at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple settled in Denison and was blessed with the birth of four children. Lawrence was a loyal employee for IBP for 20 years, before working for Hosteng Concrete until his retirement, in 2002.
Larry enjoyed taking his family to rodeos, camping, and especially enjoyed taking his sons hunting and fishing. He was very active going to local horse shows, where he barrell raced, roped calves, participated in the bat race, and the pickup race. After his retirement, he loved tinkering around the farm and being outdoors.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine in 1998; one son, Royce in 1984; three brothers: Orville, Jr, Dwayne, and Charles. Survivors include: three sons: Rick and his wife, Therese; Ron and Amy; Rodney and his wife, Heidi; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
