LaVerna Matilda Ewoldt was born on June 13, 1921, to Henry and Anna (Harm) Ullrich. She was baptized in Christ at Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed on April 16, 1935, also at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
LaVerna received her education in a rural school in Hanover Township and the Lutheran School in Denison. On January 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Albert Ewoldt at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Westside and later moved to a farm near Vail. This union was blessed with five children. In 1989, they moved to Denison to retire.
LaVerna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always putting her family first. She worked on the family farm raising chickens, ducks and enjoying gardening and flowers. She always took great pride in all she did. She was a wonderful cook, cooking many meals for the workers on the farm and family. She made delicious angel food cakes and wonderful homemade bread and rolls.
LaVerna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid, Evening Guild, Crawford County Hospital Auxiliary, Vail Legion Auxiliary and several card clubs. She had a strong faith in our Lord and was a life time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially her trip to Europe with her daughters and a Caribbean Cruise with several cousins. She enjoyed playing cards in her card clubs and participating in card tournaments. She also enjoyed crafting, quilting, reading and volunteer work.
LaVerna passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home on October 16, 2021, attaining the age of 100 years, 4 months and 3 days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Albert; son: Dennis; sisters: Dorothy Namanny and Betty Pedersen; sisters-in-law: Edna Hester, Laverne Kohnekamp and Arla Hansohn; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Namanny, Don Pedersen and Ralph Ewoldt; and son-in-law: Sergio Baum and George Edgar. Left to cherish her memory, are her children: Diane Edgar of Denison, Dale Ewoldt of Vail, Dean (Barb) Ewoldt of Humboldt and Darlys Ewoldt of Chicago, Illinois; 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and relatives and friends.
As a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, LaVerna's commitment to her family was of primary importance. To her family, she leaves a legacy of love and caring.
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Interment is in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Memorials may be directed to Eventide Endowment Fund, Zion Lutheran Church or the Epilepsy Foundation.
