LaVerne Hans Christiansen was born October 20, 1926, the son of Paul and Martha Christiansen. He passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two. His death came almost exactly one year following his wife’s death on July 8, 2018.
LaVerne was baptized in Christ on the day of his birth and later confirmed his faith April 6, 1941, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He later transferred his membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where he remained a member. He received his education in the rural school near his home and attended Charter Oak High School. He was united in marriage to Laverne Boyens September 23, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. LaVerne was employed at Farmland Foods for 10 years before driving truck for Farm Service Cooperative and for Ferrellgas.
Dancing and listening to Lawrence Welk, Moostash Joe, Mollie B and other polka bands brought him many hours of enjoyment. He found great pleasure in gardening, woodworking and working on the farm. He loved animals, especially cats and dogs, and enjoyed watching pro wrestling in Omaha. He took exceptional care of his cars, keeping them cleaned and waxed.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laverne; two brothers, Paul and his wife, Betty and Carol; and one sister-in-law, Marion and her husband, Edmund. Survivors include the following nieces and nephews: Lanette and her husband, Bob, Lajean and her husband, Lee, Larry and his wife, Marianne, Lowell and his wife, Terri, Paul Henry and his wife, Josie, Tom and his wife, Lora, and Cindy; other relatives and friends.
