Lawrence Fredrick Nelson (aka Dice) was born March 18, 1923, the son of Richard and Elsie Wulf Nelson. He passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 90.
Lawrence was born in rural Vail, Iowa. He received his education in rural schools near his home. After he completed his education, Lawrence continued farming, an occupation he enjoyed his entire lifetime. He kept his nose to the grindstone and worked hard. Lawrence also did some trucking during this time. On February 12, 1942, Lawrence was united in marriage to Jean Rupp in Rockport, Missouri. The couple made their home in Vail.
Lawrence liked to socialize with his family and friends although he was a man of few words. He enjoyed listening to the radio and the simple things in life.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry; and two brothers, Kenneth and Mearl Nelson. Survivors include his children: Dean Nelson and his special friend, Connie Wight of Vail, Iowa; Janean Haukap and her husband, Bob of Carroll, Iowa; Dan Nelson and his wife, Cindy of Vail; and Jennifer Tigges and her husband, Glenn of Carroll; and one daughter-in-law, Sue Nelson of Denison; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
