Leanna Mae Hopp was born July 23, 1941, in rural Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Elsa Jepsen. She passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-six.
Leanna was baptized in Christ September 7, 1941, at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa, and later confirmed her faith in that same church on March 25, 1956. She received her education in the Hanover No. 9 rural school near her home and then attended Charter Oak High School, graduating with the class of 1959.
Following her high school graduation, she was employed at the Denison Candy Kitchen, later working as a waitress, grocery store clerk and then at Farmland Foods in Denison for twenty years. On October 16, 1960, she was united in marriage to Donald Hopp at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They lived in the Charter Oak area until the present time except for a year when they lived in Westside, Iowa.
Leanna served her church, St. John Lutheran Church, in many capacities where she was on the altar committee, funeral committee and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the gardening club, was a 4-H leader and volunteered at Eventide Nursing Home. Among her many interests were sewing, bird watching, horseback riding, bowling, golfing, and helping her children with their many 4-H projects which included sewing, crafts, cooking and gardening, horse shows, and leading and bathing 1200 pound steers. Leanna also enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Scrabble and playing cards. She loved visits from all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leanna was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Delores in infancy, and Marjorie and her husband, Robert; two brothers, Arnold and Edward and his wife, Dorothy; one nephew, Mark; and one niece, Lori. Survivors include: her husband, Donald; three daughters: Tammy and her husband, Gary, Trudy and her husband, Douglas, and Tonya and her husband, Michael; one son, Troy and his wife, Lori; twenty grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma and her husband, Marlo; one brother, Freddie and his wife, Shirleen; one sister-in-law, Florence; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
