Lee Arnold Rasmussen was born August 12, 1944, the son of Elliott and Amanda (Wiechman) Rasmussen in Audubon, Iowa. In 1963, he graduated from Atlantic High School. Lee joined the Air Force in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1967. After he returned home for the service, Lee worked for Larson and Charlotte as a brick tender. In 1969, he started his employment as an Electrician for the City of Ames Power Plant and retired in 2010.
In 1968, Lee was united in marriage to Judy McAtee and they were blessed with two daughters, Keri and Lori. On July 26, 1986, he was united in marriage to Mary Larimore and she presented him with three other children: David, Dawn, and Douglas.
Lee was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames where he was a faithful member for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Ames American Legion. Lee enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, cooking, and riding his motorcycle. He loved spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren. They made many memories golfing, lighting firecrackers, and the many stories Lee would share with them.
Lee passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Rolling Green Village in Nevada, at the age of 78 years. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Myrna Kersey, Karen Rasmussen, Ronald Rasmussen, Ernest Rasmussen, and Linda Hennick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Rasmussen of Ames; 5 children: Kerri (Edward) Biebel of Slater, Lori (Jon) King of Holyoke, Colorado, David (Tami) Larimore of Ogden, Dawn Black of Des Moines and Doug (Mindi) Larimore of Ames; brothers: Steve (DeEtta) Rasmussen of Fort Madison, and David Rasmussen of Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Terri Siemer of Phoenix, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service following at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames. Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in Loving Memory of Lee.
