Lee Alvin Swanson was born July 21, 1961, at home in Chesson, Alabama to William “Jake” Sr. and Evelyn (Thompson) Swanson. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Lee’s journey in life began with an education at Notasulga High School, followed by his attendance at the Kentucky Job Corps where he earned certifications in cement finishing, operating heavy construction equipment, and welding. His professional journey saw him dabble in construction before he relocated to South Dakota to live with his brother, Jerome, and his son, Mario. There, he applied his skills in cement finishing while continuing his work in construction.
The search for new opportunities brought Lee to Denison, Iowa, where he found employment at ThermalFab where he dedicated nearly two decades, cementing a reputation as a reliable worker. Despite facing challenges with his vision, Lee transitioned into a role in maintenance at Walmart and later took a job at Sullivan Supply, demonstrating his resilience and determination throughout his career.
Lee’s heart found its match when he met Patricia “Pat” Gierstorf at The Pub in Denison in 2002. Their chemistry was undeniable that evening as they danced together, leading to a union of love and commitment on December 8, 2006. Their shared passion for dancing and spending time together was a cornerstone of their relationship. The couple often traveled south to visit Lee’s family in Alabama, creating cherished memories along the way.
Lee was not only known for his work ethic but also for his love of leisure and fun. He enjoyed fishing, particularly at local farm ponds, where he practiced the art of catch and release. His passion for games came alive during evenings spent playing cards, particularly Spades, often accompanied by laughter over pizza and drinks shared with his beloved wife, Pat, and their friends. He had a profound love for his 2000 Classic Cruiser Harley Davidson motorcycle, taking joy in trips to South Dakota to reconnect with his brother and visits to Omaha. Lee was also known for his affection for his big dog, Bubba, who brought him joy and companionship.
