Leon Ransom

Leon Phillip Ransom was born November 24, 1922, the son of Phillip and Nellie Ransom. He died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 87.
Leon was born in Denison and received his education in the Denison Community High School. Shortly after graduation, he began working for the Chicago & North Western Railroad beginning a career with the railroad that lasted over thirty years when he retired in 1979.
On December 17, 1954, Leon was united in marriage to Annette Ohl in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple made their home in Denison.
He loved sports, especially Chicago Cubs Baseball and the Iowa Hawkeyes Football. He also enjoyed going to the Denison Monarch Football games. Additionally, he would occasionally be found at a dog or horse race. Leon had a good sense of humor and really enjoyed socializing with his dear friends over a cup of coffee, but he did cherish his privacy and solitude and generally gave visitors little attention during a good baseball or football game. TV shows he enjoyed were The Price is Right and the Lawrence Welk Show. He moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Annette in 1981. Survivors include his stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, and a stepdaughter-in-law.
