Leona F. Bohlmann

Leona Friederika Wilhelmina Bohlmann was born November 6, 1915, the daughter of William and Martha Bohlmann Rickert. She passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety nine.
Leona was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized into Christ on December 12, 1915 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hanover Township. She later confirmed her faith on April 7, 1929 at St. Paul's.
Leona received her education at a rural school near Charter Oak and the Lutheran School of St. Paul.
On November 1, 1936, Leona was united in marriage to Herbert Bohlmann at St. Paul's Hanover Township. The couple made their home on a farm in sections fifteen and sixteen of Hanover township until 1946 when they purchased additional land in section eight of Hanover township. The couple was blessed with the birth of two children, Janet and Dean. In 1977, they retired from farming and moved to Ricketts.
After Herb's death in 2009 Leona soon moved to the Denison Care Center where she resided until March of 2014. She then moved to Eventide where she remained until the present.
Leona was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always busy and productive in her many interests and hobbies which included sewing, making laundry soap, baking bread, gardening, canning, making sausage, and tending to chickens while on the farm. After moving to Ricketts she continued to care for her flowers, plants, and small garden while continuing to sew and make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She also enjoyed polka music, socializing with neighbors and painting ceramics when she was at the Care Center.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Hanover having served as a Sunday School and Bible school teacher as well as being a member of the LWML and Altar Guild.
Leona is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; one sister, Helma and her husband Ervin; one brother-in-law, Arthur and his wife Evelyn. Survivors include one daughter, Janet and her husband Lyle; one son, Dean and his wife Natalie; four grandsons Rick and his wife Ann; Randy and his wife Donna; Brett and his wife Danielle; and Derek and his special friend Sara with daughter Avery; eight great grandchildren Kathryn, Bennett, Jacob, and Maxson Pauley; Wayne and wife Casey; Katie Mason; Adrian and Jaxson ; and two great- great grandchildren Wyatt and Karlee as well as other relatives and friends.
