Leonard Carl Koch was born August 7, 1927, at rural Denison, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Anna Boger Koch. He passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Manning Plaza in Manning, Iowa, at the age of eighty-nine.
Leonard received his education in the schools near his home and graduated from Westside High School in 1945 where he also played basketball on the school team. Leonard was united in marriage to Maxine Hinners February 16, 1952, and they settled on a farm near Westside and were blessed with the birth of four children.
Besides farming which included custom farming in the area, and a 4-H leader, he was also a crop adjuster and mixed chemicals for aerial spraying. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting pheasant and deer, fishing in Minnesota and South Dakota, going to farm sales and being outside working on Farmall tractors.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine in 1996; one son-in-law, Jeff Joens; one granddaughter, Cheryl Jean Ehlers; one sister, Maxine Namanny and her husband, Herbie; and two brothers, Leroy Koch, Jr. and his wife, Norma and Dale Koch and his wife, Sheryl; two brothers-in-law, Don Meyer and Glenn Lenz. Survivors include: two sons, Steven Koch and wife, Sophia of Westside, and Terry Koch and special friend, Tracy Ehlers of Vail; two daughters, Becki Ehlers and husband, Allen of Manning and Karen Joens of Manning; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Maasen of Manning, Shirley Walde and husband, Leonard of Westside and Jolene Meyer of Carroll; other relatives and friends.
